Today, the 4th of July.
The sun is shining, for what seems like the first time in ages. Flags are flying (I finally remembered BEFORE the 4th to hang ours, as opposed to the usual realization on the 5th of July), the scent of grills wafts across the slight breezes.
Last night, we fell asleep to the sounds of distant fireworks, which has always been one of the true sounds of summer to me. This evening, we will pack our blankets, our chairs, a homemade blueberry pie and classic American chocolate-chip cookies and be enthralled, along with hundreds of other viewers, by the giant sparkles in the sky. Rainbows, fireworks, a line of ducks crossing the road…simple things that always stop folks in their tracks, happily so.
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I slept in until 9am and have spent the past 2 hours on our porch, coffee in one hand, magazine in the other and a good conversationalist (hubby) by my side. Needless to say, I’ve got that part of the American constitutional trifecta covered, I think.
Life. Enjoy it. Savor it. Cherish it. Add sparkle to it.
Liberty. Be stinkin’ glad that you have it. Be mindful of those who helped to establish it and those who continually work to ensure it. A viewing of the HBO special John Adams is a good reminder of the former. Just sayin.
This is as good a time as any to let you know that the Daily Frosting will be relaxing a bit over the summer months. With the priority of not being glued to my computer and actually getting out there and being with my kids and soaking up some Vitamin D and garden goodness, my postings will probably appear a few times a week, rather a daily occurence. Although, I may post a good pic or quote on the non-big-writing days, just to put some little bee in everyone’s bonnet for the day, It is, after all, DAILY frosting, not Every-other-day Frosting. If you have suggestions, let me know. Always up for good ideas. And also, if you care to not miss anything (since the postings will not necessarily happen on set-days), please subscribe to follow, that way you’ll get a lovely, little ping when a fresh Frosting post appears.
Enjoy your day, everyone. In so many ways, we are a lucky bunch, aren’t we?
